Another Great Day at the Not Office

Meeting with a concerned parent and his son’s teachers. The parent would like us to shame his son by announcing the boy’s low mark to the entire class. Shame will motivate. He may be right, but I explain it’s not an option. FOIP. Professional standards. Self-esteem. The father gives me a look that says, “Fuck your FOIP. Make my boy learn.”

High School Volleyball Boys Still Stupid

During the “pressure serving” drill I use to help them improve their serving consistency, their answers to questions were no better than those of last year’s team. My favourite exchange was to the question, “What’s the capital of Quebec?”

No More Pencils, No More Books…

School’s out for summer. Another year over. Yesterday was the last day with the kids, and a whole bunch came by to hang out and get me to sign their yearbooks. It was great having a grade 12 homeroom; it really let me see a side of the high school experience I had missed last year.
