Why You Should Use Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

Before we start, don’t worry about all that jargon flying around: RSS, XML, Atom, burner, feed, aggregator, etc. You don’t have to know what any mean in order to benefit. These are just sexy terms we geeks use to make us feel better about the fact that we’re not doctors.

How To Peel A Potato Without a Peeler

This is what the internet is for: useful, fun, surprising facts. The fact that this entry on how to peel a potato in one shot links to a video of a Japanese cooking show should put the Irish to shame.

My favourite part is the build up, where they have a very frustrated woman trying to peel a cooked potato with her fingernails– you keep expecting to hear the late night voice-over come on to try to sell you something.

I wanna go buy some potatoes just to try this out.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 12)

I was sure that going back to work would give me the nudge I needed. Nah. In fact, I almost missed my 7am bus.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 11)

It was Terence of Andria who wisely prescribed, “Moderation in all things.” About two centuries later, Thomas Becon piped up, “Oh yeah? Including moderation!” Some sense of comic timing.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 10)

My body finally stepped in. Woke up this morning at 5am feeling not tired, but actually ill. Angry, tickling roots of a migraine tentacling out from my basal ganglia. Woof. Back to bed, after lots of liquids and ibuprofen. Thankfully, it could have been much, much worse. I regained consciousness a few times during the day, feeling woozy and rock-crusher-headed, focusing long enough to suck back more water and drugs. By the time I was feeling like a real person, it was almost 4pm, and I hadn’t called my lady friend regarding date numero deux.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 9)

So it’s 2:37am and I’m heading to bed, again thinking I’ll be up at 5am. I think this is going to be really challenging until something (like, say, my job) forces me to get up in the morning. Because currently, I’m enjoying being up late way too much.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 8)

Well, the wheels have come fully off, it would seem. I was out late again last night (bedtime after 2am), and couldn’t stay up after turning of my alarm. Worse, when I did wake up (7am), I decided to just have a quick nap and then start the day. But I accidentally hit the “alarm 2” button instead of the “nap” button; so I set an alarm for 6:30am (already past), and woke up at 11:30am. Back to my normal routine.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 7)

I’m trying to keep this in perspective. After all, I’m on holidays here, and only short months ago that would have meant my average wake time would be noon.

The Making of a Morning Person (Day 6)

Strange news to report today. I was indeed up at 5am, but the problem was that I never actually went to bed. So I can’t fairly claim to have gotten up, to have risen early.
