Boycott Michael Bublé
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on March 15th, 2005
A friend introduced me to Michael Bublé’s music tonight. Michael is a Canadian singer with three CDs of other people’s music. I am usually supportive of new Canadian artists, but I have to put my foot down on this one. Far from adding to the pool of artistic diversity, Bublé merely reproduces the golden oldies, Read the full article…
Block-busted!
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on March 6th, 2005
Last month I mentioned how upset I was about Blockbuster Video’s so-called “end of late fees” campaign. So imagine my glee when I heard CBC’s Stuart McLean going off on a rant about the policy, mentioning that New Jersey is even starting a fraud suit against the company. Even if the suit is unsuccessful, at Read the full article…
iTunes Without the iPod
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on March 6th, 2005
I’ve just found my new favourite thing: Apple iTunes software. And no, I don’t own an Apple computer (yet). Neither do I own an iPod, which makes iTunes useless as a music transfer mechanism for my aging MP3 player (the famous and foreign MPIO DMG which I imported from Korea in 2002 for over $400). I’ll Tumble For Ya
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on March 3rd, 2005
So I’m taking Kung Fu classes. Seriously. And in preparation for a tournament we’re hosting at the end of the month, we put mats on the floor tonight and practiced tumbling. Ed’s Note: He’s not actually participating in the tournament, as he will be conveniently out of town. It seemed somehow ridiculous to be a Read the full article…
Shiver Me Timbers

This is too funny to keep to myself. After answering a few humourous questions, you can learn your pirate name (shown below). Having once attended a team pub crawl dressed as pirates (and savagely defeating all other teams, including the doctors and the guy walking four women dressed at dogs), this one is close to Read the full article…
Today Honourable Mention, Tomorrow… Third Place!
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on February 19th, 2005
One of my poems has been given an honourable mention in the Queen’s University Alumni poetry competition! Three Sugar Packets appears on their web site and will be printed in the Winter 2005 issue of the magazine as well. Ed’s Note: It didn’t actually get printed in the magazine. Just online. Man, the only thing Read the full article…
The Straightener

The purpose of the third male is to prevent a pair of men in public from appearing as though they are a couple or on a date: he is the straightener.
Some Schmaltz for the Season
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on February 14th, 2005
In honour of Valentine’s day, I’ve written my first postcard story (less than 500 words), in a romantic vein. To be clear, the idea came to me moments ago, unprompted by the holiday (inasmuch as I wasn’t planning on writing a story about anything today). Pure fromage. Enjoy.
Groceries

The cashier stood waiting with the woman’s change, awkward and too close. The people in line strained to hear. The store became quiet. Aisles held their breath.
If These Walls Could Talk
Posted by yoursinwriting in Everything Else on February 13th, 2005
Heard my neighbours going at it this morning. Or at least, the female neighbour. Not a peep for three months and then I find myself listening Ed’s Note: As if he wouldn’t. and wondering seriously whether I should call the police or just smirk in a knowing way. Either way, from the sounds of things Read the full article…
